History
Plater Group's Glossop site has had a long and varied history.
The buildings were originally constructed in 1902, by the Urban Electricity Supply Company, to provide power for the new Glossop Tramways. The first tram ran in August 1903 and the last on 24th December 1927.

The plot has been developed over the last 90 years, however some of the original rails can be seen around the site. The engine sheds pictured are still standing and now form part of Plater Production' spray drying manufacturing facility.

Over the years, Plater Group has promoted and sponsored many initiatives in support of local communities and charitable organisations, in Glossop and Staffordshire.

Local sporting clubs’ benefit from annual financial support, together with charities providing support to people living in neighbouring communities. The Plater Group team have taken part in several challenges raising funds for worthwhile charities.

Plater Bio’s Founder and Technical Director, Russell Sharp has been invited to join the panel of expert speakers at the R&D Agri Products Congress taking place 22-23 November 2017 at the Hilton Amsterdam Hotel in The Netherlands.

Dr Sharp will be sharing the research currently being conducted by Plater Bio into new biopesticide and biostimulant products; their modes of action and findings to date from their research results. He’ll explain their exploration of products with multiple uses and MoA, and the regulatory and market considerations that need to be taken into account. Russell will also share the challenges of scale-up and how Plater Bio overcome these by using the experience and facilities within the Plater Group.

He joins other experts from organisations such as Syngenta, Bayer CropScience, BASF, Harper Adams University and many more industry leaders who will be addressing the sector’s most pressing questions.

Plater Bio was founded in 2016 and uses the research and industry knowledge gained by Dr Russell Sharp during his times at Agrinos, Biotechnica, Moulton College, Lancaster University and Durham University. Plater Bio, based in Glossop, North Derbyshire manufactures novel biostimulants and micronutrients for the agriculture and horticulture industries. All our products are manufactured using a unique manufacturing system without the use of synthetic chemicals, heat or pressure. Our range of natural extracts include cold-press seaweed extracts and fungal chitosan.
