History
Plater Group's Glossop site has had a long and varied history.
The buildings were originally constructed in 1902, by the Urban Electricity Supply Company, to provide power for the new Glossop Tramways. The first tram ran in August 1903 and the last on 24th December 1927.

The plot has been developed over the last 90 years, however some of the original rails can be seen around the site. The engine sheds pictured are still standing and now form part of Plater Production' spray drying manufacturing facility.

Over the years, Plater Group has promoted and sponsored many initiatives in support of local communities and charitable organisations, in Glossop and Staffordshire.

Local sporting clubs’ benefit from annual financial support, together with charities providing support to people living in neighbouring communities. The Plater Group team have taken part in several challenges raising funds for worthwhile charities.

Plater Group increases support to Glossop RUFC

Plater Group increases support to Glossop RUFC

Glossop RUFC are due to celebrate the club’s 50th Anniversary for season 2018/19.

They currently have one year remaining of an existing 3 year sponsorship deal from Glossop based Plater Group. In the lead up to this momentous season for the club Plater Group has agreed to increase their financial support and extend the sponsorship for another 3 years.

“This is fantastic news”, says Club President, Sean Wood and continued “We cannot do what we do without this kind of support, and coincidently since Plater Group came on board we have had our most successful three seasons ever.”

The club have secured two Senior Derbyshire Cup wins, one NLD Shield win and a runners up spot in the NLD Cup where they were beaten by Derby who sit three full levels above Glossop and boast the Namibian full back from the last World Cup in their line-up.

Glossop have also skirted with promotion in the past three seasons finishing 5th, 4th and 3rd in the League, this could be the year as they sit in 4th position with a number of games in hand.

Sean Wood adds, “from my point of view, as President, I'm delighted to say that we have over 150 youngsters signed on in the mini and junior sections, and this season has seen the return of a Ladies Section, the Glossop Amazones. This picture here of Lisa Cook says it all, she scored the teams first ever try against Oldham in March.”
