Chitosan and the forgotten Basic Substances

Basic Substances are a group of chemicals and natural extracts that can be used in plant protection in the EU. In 2014 a range of substances were approved as “basic” under Regulation 1107/2009 and these can be used without restriction in any EU member state for an indefinite period. Sounds pretty amazing, right? So why have these regulations and thus a whole arsenal of plant protection products been ignored or forgotten? This is the question I answer in the YouTube video below, with a focus on one particularly powerful basic substance ‘Chitosan Hydrochloride’.
